In a Nutshell

Ever since me and my friend were younger, we always wondered why there was so much trash in the oceans and rivers. Now that we are in middle school, we are learning about this problem. It turns out that people in poorer communities don't have enough money to get garbage bins or recycling bins. So they just throw trash on the ground and in rivers. The Ocean Cleanup group addresses this problem. They placed Interceptors at river mouths so all the trash gets cleaned up as it flows down the rivers. For the oceans, they use two giant boats and trail a net behind. It collects all the trash in the ocean as it passes by. The net doesn't affect fish though, it just stays on the top and collects trash on the surface.
